Cherry finds inspiration from global imagery, wildlife, florals, landscapes, the California coastlines and

 as a Zone Ambassador at The San Diego Zoo.

IN STUDIO:  Drawing upon exploration, she focuses on themes with charismatic and richly-hued compositions.  Handling the brush softly, her artworks celebrate the interplay of color, movement and light- then paint applied in glazed layers.  For oils and watercolors, it's difficult to switch back and forth. They are opposite in many ways. Yet, she has discovered the challenge of the contrasting mediums enhance each other.  In a new Adobe art studio, space is divided by these techniques as well as pastels, acrylics and an art library.

 RESUME IN BRIEF: With a Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design from San Diego State University in 1978, her career began as a  Art Director in advertising to Computer Graphics for Time Magazine, JT Racing, San Diego Union Tribune, Sega and Paramount Studios.  

   In 1990, she became a full-time Fine Artist at Festivals, Art Guilds and Galleries in local and international collections.  Notable showings have included The Smithsonian Museum, The Athens Equestrian Center, A Tokyo Gyotaku Festival, The Kennedy Gallery in Grand Cayman, The Living Coast Discovery Center, Catalina Island, The Bishop’s School, Spanish Village in Balboa Park and St James Gallery-by-the-Sea.

   Currently, she focuses on solo exhibitions, commissions and sharing her love for traveling as an artist through her Paintbooks.  Special series are dedicated to the ancient Japanese Art of Gyotaku, the endangered breed of Greek Skyrian Equine dating back to Alexander the Great 440bc and a month in Italy collecting inspiration for 'Finding Venetian Angels.

  LOCATION PAINTBOOKS: While co-leading a Euro-Egypt Art History tour of twelve countries in 1984, Cherry recalled the Plein Air painting techniques of the Impressionist masters. As it is essential to capture an elusive scene, she improvised lightweight easels and sketching/multi-media paint kits.  With this adapted art gear in hand, imagery, sounds and senses of a place come to life in a whole new light.  This evolved into an ideal form of illustrating she has entitled ‘Painted Echoes’.  Back in studio, over 60 and counting, they are vital road maps for larger formats and priceless memoirs from life's adventures.  

  “One of my most cherished memories is painting until dark as a guest in Monet's Garden. Since then, I’ve continued to chase that light.   In Venice, a singing gondolier dropped me off near the Bridge of Sighs. In Greece, the sunset filtered through an olive grove, over my canvas and onto a herd of curious horses.
